[Okay, he's put this off long enough, and his moody nature has recovered from the (ridiculous and embarrassing) feeling of being spurned after seeing Inigo get along with that suspicious alchemist and not noticing Cat silently making a face at him that was definitely not some form of pining for friendship.

But, uh... What...is that that people...say...to someone that a part of them has attacked, when all they've done is be kind...? New territory, for Cat. He thinks, at least, that it would probably be new territory for most people.]

Inigo feels pretty surprised when he suddenly finds this message waiting for him. Really, even though he had some bad experiences back when the town shifted like that, he didn't really expect anyone to apologize for it. Most people couldn't really help it, after all. Inigo never blamed a single person for what they did under the influence of this place.

And yet.. there it is. A kind of apology. A clarification, at least. The blue-haired guy has to stare at the words for a few moments, unsure what to do about them. Unsure how to even reply. ]

Of course you wouldn't say that sort of stuff to people. You're nicer than that.

[ A pause, and then another message joins the last one. ]

I must admit I am fairly surprised you even went out of your way to clarify! I would hope you know that I think you are a much better person than that.

[Cat isn't the fastest typist in the realm by far, but the pauses he takes is long, even for him. It pains him to correct this assumption, rather than lean into it.]

[ It's not like he doesn't get it at all. Inigo has seen people who did that. Plenty of them.

But Cat just never seemed like any of them. It makes it hard for him to imagine the other that way - just being careless, cruel. Just letting people get hurt, as long as he comes out of it better on the other side. Every attempt he makes to imagine it just comes up blank.

Even more so when he can't imagine why someone would be nice to him if they wouldn't bother to be nice to others. ]

I mean, I don't think there is a need for that at all here. Not with anyone. Everyone just seems kind. You don't seem any different from them.

[He draws himself up into a curled position, running over the possibility in his mind. Like Inigo, he can hardly imagine a world in which that sort of thing is possible for himself, as tired as he is. He spent too long without anybody he could rely on, and now the person that changed that for him isn't there. The little allowances he carved out felt like a betrayal to both himself and his sister...which is probably ridiculous. He feels it in his gut nonetheless.

...Plus there's that guy. Inigo...probably wasn't the type that would run into trouble with him, even if Cat turns out to be right about never trusting an alchemist.]

[ It's the only way. It feels like the only way, anyway. No matter how much cruelty Inigo has seen in his life, he doesn't feel like letting even one person suffer because of it.

And even if Cat may claim that he's doing this to keep himself safe, Inigo feels like it'll only hurt him in the long run. It's just no way to live.

It's too lonely. ]

If you don't believe the world can be good, or that people can be kind, I will just have to show you that both of those things are true.

[ Got you there, Cat! You can't be some ~bad person who takes advantage of what they can get~ when Inigo is providing good things from the bottom of his heart! Get locked into building a bond against your will, dude!! ]

[He could point out and question what happens when someone takes beyond what someone should give...but it isn't like he wants Inigo to consider these things. Not when it comes to him, anyway. Worse still, Inigo already knows that and will think that Cat (gasp) cares.]
