[ He can see the hurt. And Inigo wants to reach out and embrace that hurt so badly, help his friend with it, but he doubts she's going to let him. Blake has thrown up a wall so high that even Inigo - notorious heart-wall-climber - isn't sure he can climb over it. Not enough to make her trust him enough to let him help with her hurt anyway, he's sure.
So there's still no aggression at all in the way he looks at her. There's only a strangely similar hurt in his eyes. ]
.. I just want you to be okay, Blake.
[ His voice is resigned. Like he's realized he might not be able to help her here, which hurts, but he does want to at least tell her this much. Especially when he's not sure how long it'll take before she's her usual self again. (If she ever does become that once more.) ]
I don't want you to have to go around fearing that everyone is here is out to get you. [ ... ] That's all.
[ Her response is an irritated snap, and maybe a tiny little bit of a cover-up. She's been thrown into a whole new world full of strange creatures, a human is talking to her, a human among what looks like many, and he's not even answering her questions properly. Surely he does want something in return for being helpful, but he's pretending to care for her, which is infuriating.
Blake rests a gloved hand on the handle of one of her swords, sheathed at her hip. He hasn't attempted to harm her yet, and no matter the anger Blake feels and the oppression they face, she still won't cut down humans who don't deserve it.
But--
Something is coming. A shambling group of bird-like creatures are making a bee-line for them. Blake scowls. ]
[ Usually Inigo would have been a little bit more attentive. He certainly would have noticed their approach before now, at least - but he was so focused on Blake and the change within her that he just plainly wasn't paying attention to anything else going on here, making his eyes go wide in surprise when he notices what she is talking about. ]
Those are bad.
[ Could he give more of an explanation? Sure.
But this isn't really the time for it. Especially with how quickly they're moving towards the two of them right now. Inigo puts a hand on his own blade when he's looking at the approaching group, drawing his sword from its sheath at his side. ]
Look-- I know you don't trust me. [ As much as it hates to say that, it's obvious. It radiates from absolutely everything around his friend right now. ] But if we don't do something about those things together, we'll both be in trouble.
[ Blake - as she usually is - immediately would have had his back here. He knows it. He trusts her so much.
He only hopes he can convince this Blake of the necessity of the same thing here. Especially with so very little time to work with. ]
[ Blake frowns. Compared to Grimm, these bird creatures don't look like much of a threat -- but she knows better than to judge threat based on size alone. The human obviously thinks they're dangerous, and so, Blake will indulge his caution. It's better to be cautious than arrogant, after all.
She draws her swords. Unlike the Blake that Inigo knows, this Blake has two red, jagged blades linked by a length of chain, one big enough to qualify as a broadsword, the other smaller and more agile. ]
Fine. We'll deal with these, and then I'll cut my way out of this reality if I have to.
[ She has no idea of the combat capabilities of this human. He has a sword, and he doesn't look completely useless with it, but that says little. For now, she'll just assume he's competent. She sets one foot back, heel scraping against the cobblestones, and launches forward, barreling toward the bird creatures. ]
[ Though he isn't quite as fast as her, Inigo also doesn't seem to trail behind Blake all that much as he starts running. There's thoughts in his head forming, trying to piece themselves together into something coherent - her mask, the weapon, her attitude - but there's no time for it to fully work.
Not when Inigo has to focus on this fight. Blake can handle herself, probably even in this form, but he still doesn't want her to be alone in this.
Even if she might prefer it.
So Inigo doesn't think about it for now. He doesn't even talk. Instead he just does what he has to do here - help her with dealing with these creatures, sinking his blade into the first one once they manage to reach them. ]
[ It's been a long time since Blake has fought at the side of anybody she doesn't know well, and she finds herself irked by it. She doesn't know how to predict Inigo, doesn't know what kind of fighter he is, or what his strategies are, and fighting in close quarters with him could prove dangerous. One wrong swing of her sword, or his, and they could easily injure each other.
To prevent that, she puts herself on the other side the skeksis-- running toward them, she gets within striking distance, and then their claws cut through shadow as she fades out, and reappears behind the group. A cross-chop across the back of the one closest to her has it squawking, half of the skeksis whirling about to face her.
Lips set in a grim line, she engages in battle. The skeksis aren't as big or ferocious as Grimm, but she's not going to underestimate them. ]
[ It's not that hard for them both. Blake seems just as skilled of a fighter as he knows her to be - though perhaps a little more intense, if Inigo had to put a word to the moves he can spot when he occasionally glances in her direction from the corner of his eye - and takes down trhe skesis just as easily as Inigo does on his own end. It's not too long before they're only down to two of the creatures still standing--
Which promptly try to flee. Inigo lets them, figuring that they've probably gotten the message that they shouldn't bother harassing people anymore. Instead he just lets his sword drop to his side, turning towards Blake.
Is she also done? Or is she going after the two that are currently fleeing? ]
