Come on, you don't know a thing about Ylisse? Everyone knows about Ylisse! [ He doesn't seem to push the matter too much though. Instead the laugh practically echoes through in his tone as he says the words, and a moment later he's already grabbing Arrakis' hand to drag the other along. Something strange happens when they move. The field of flowers around them slowly fades into different surroundings. Even though there was not a city in sight, suddenly they are walking right through what seems like medieval city gates into a rather busy city. Said city also looks like it was taken straight out of medieval times, including people in armour wandering the streets.
But there's plenty of normal people too. Kids playing in the streets. Vendors in market stalls trying to sell their wares. There's a busy yet warm atmosphere no matter where you look, and a large castle sits on a hill in the middle of the city, practically visible from everywhere due to its height. ]
Surely you have been here in Ylisstol before. It's the largest city of the halidom, and it's where our Exalt resides!
I do suppose it sounds like a complicated story. I am not entirely sure I fully understand, other than that it sounds like there was a lot going on in your world.
It makes me wonder if you are alright. I am not certain you had to deal with all of it, but.. even having to handle a little bit of that sounds like it would be a lot.
[ .. that might be kind of a depressing thought if you examine it for too long.
So, you know. Don't do that, Yato. Just don't think too hard about it. Inigo is kind of brushing past it too, because the last thing he wants the other to have to do here is get all pessimistic about his chances of ever getting out of this place.
Instead he smiles, almost cheekily, as he jokes: ]
But-- you have been here for such a short time, and you are already aspiring to become a god? I would call those some rather lofty ambitions! [ At least it seems to just be a friendly and light sort of poking fun at Yato, rather than actually intending to insult him. Inigo seems too cheery for the latter, leaving any sort of sneer out of the joke. ]
[ Yup, the tone is entirely lost. Which is why Fang Duobing is - unfortunately - getting a way too earnest response from Inigo for something that was just meant to be a joke. ]
Is it not nice to have friends here? You should do your best to get along with them! I mean, what if they suddenly leave this place and the last thing you did was fight? That'd be awful!
I am certain he would understand your lunch is important to you if you would just explain it to him!
He.. well, he looks fine, really. Groaning aside, at least it doesn't look like he scraped himself during the fall. There's no blood or anything. The groaning seems to be the worst of it, and even that quiets as soon as Inigo speaks up. When he first moves up his hand, it's just to give her a thumbs up.
"Everything's fine. Exactly as planned."
Sure, Inigo. That's why you were groaning on the floor.
At least he does finally take her hand then to allow Corrin to help him up, dusting off his outfit as he does.
"I am glad that you know you can always count on me as your reliable knight, Corrin." Well, maybe not her knight. But still. While it's just them here, he might as well claim that sort of thing. "Always there to catch you if you fall-- erm, one way or another. Perhaps a bit more of a gallant catch next time, if I have a slight bit more heads up."
Though-- who knows if he would have done better even with advance notice. Inigo may have some muscle from all the fighting, but he's not exactly the biggest guy around!
[ The good news is that it's at least avoiding crushing Inigo emotionally or flirting.. for now?
The bad news is that Inigo is so focusing on this. Probably because he's not really used to people talking about him in ways that don't involve only discussing how much he sucks. So-- ]
Why were you?
[ Sorry for the ten thousand questions, Cat, but you truly can't expect to bring this up to Inigo and for him to just brush it off! ]
[ It seems that the young man is way more at ease when he's talking about something that doesn't involve all the strange video game-y stuff all around. He smiles easily at her question, gesturing for her to come along as he already starts walking - and excitedly chatting at the same time. ]
Well, of course that entirely depends on the interests of those included in the tour!
[ He says - like a natural. ]
Is there anything you particularly enjoy, milady? Or something you might be curious about seeing? I will have you know I'm a great improviser! [ Now that's.. half.. true. At best. ]
Hey, you don't have to worry about me getting into trouble!
I realize you might not be able to see if, since we are writing to each other rather than meeting in person, but I am a strong knight! Even if trouble would happen, I could protect both you and myself from it.
So.. you understand, right? There is nothing at all to worry about as long as I can be there for you when you need it!
[ Alert, alert: the elephant has just been shot by an arrow!! ]
Who, me?
[ Thank Naga this is over text, Inigo thinks. It's just about the only way he can come across as convincing right now, since she didn't see any of the facial expressions that just came over him. ]
Of course I'm not! I'm practically a knight, you know? They are strong, and brave, and they would never feel homesick! I am just making the most of my stay in this place, and making sure to take care of all the people around me while I am at it! It does not even matter that I am the only person from my world present here! [ Well, there's Corrin, but..
Corrin is technically from another world. And Inigo hasn't even met her yet back home, so he feels like it doesn't count. She's just like everyone else he met here - a total stranger at first. Only she's going to be a part of his life in the future, apparently. ]
Inigo is mentally pressing X to doubt, Finnick. Only a little bit, considering that Inigo also kind of made himself be okay with the fact that he gave up his own future in order to save the world and all, so he knows it's possible to actually be alright with this sort of thing..
.. but he also knows some people can definitely hide their hurt. He's going to keep an eye on you now!
Though - in time. Right now he's mostly focusing on the latter question, because he thinks that's also an important topic.
"If it was safer, mostly. I know that this," he gestures at the strange fish, "seems relatively harmless right now, even in its absurdity. But so many things tend to happen in this place that threaten the safety of the people living here, and I would wish for those to stop. If not just so people can live without constantly having to be worried about such things interfering with their peaceful life."
[ At least it does seem like intent managed to carry through text there. Li Lianhua didn't even have to hit Inigo for it or anything! That's how strong the scolding was, imparted through text alone! ]
It's good to me! I care about you smiling! I am utterly dedicated to you smiling! [ .. though maybe the scolding getting across isn't such a good thing when it just leads to more nonsense like this, huh.
Li Lianhua is doing this to himself at this point. ]
I understand that sounds like a joke, but it is just the reality of things. If someone slings a magical fireball or lightning bolt at you, you just have to be quick and try to get out of the way. It isn't always possible, since it happens so quickly, but I will have you know that I have trained a whole lot my entire life to be very light on my feet!
[ Darn, Aubrey, what a roast. But it's okay, they can just move past that one. ]
I am!
I have been holding a sword in my hand since I was practically half the age I am now. And before that me and my cousin were already playing with toy wooden swords together. I have found that it's a far more common thing where I come from than it is in most of the worlds represented here.
He shakes his head. "Not that I know of. I do know that there is a group of people who are learning sword fighting together, but it seems to be only for girls."
And while Inigo understands why - or, well, he figures it's some sort of mystical girl thing he can't quite understand, just like how he can't understand most things about women - it still feels like some people might be missing out in that case.
"I think Corrin is the one leading it at this point-- Or I at least know she is involved in it. Have you perhaps met her already?"
[ He's already pointing over at another patch of flowers, describing them once they arrive there. Even when they move on to the next patch, Inigo describes those as well. This is all pretty normal to him so far - just Eilowny doing some flower research, right?
He turns towards her with a smile after those descriptions, asking: ]
So, what's next?
[ He's totally unsuspecting right now.. ]
( ooc: honestly, her repeating it should probably be enough for him to pick up on it! by the time the loop repeats yet another time he'll know for sure, haha. c: )
[ He can see the hurt. And Inigo wants to reach out and embrace that hurt so badly, help his friend with it, but he doubts she's going to let him. Blake has thrown up a wall so high that even Inigo - notorious heart-wall-climber - isn't sure he can climb over it. Not enough to make her trust him enough to let him help with her hurt anyway, he's sure.
So there's still no aggression at all in the way he looks at her. There's only a strangely similar hurt in his eyes. ]
.. I just want you to be okay, Blake.
[ His voice is resigned. Like he's realized he might not be able to help her here, which hurts, but he does want to at least tell her this much. Especially when he's not sure how long it'll take before she's her usual self again. (If she ever does become that once more.) ]
I don't want you to have to go around fearing that everyone is here is out to get you. [ ... ] That's all.
Well, that makes two people completely baffled about the existence of that picture on Sakura's device. Inigo blinks rapidly, like his brain also has to adjust to this reality. ]
I-- I don't know-- [ He stammers.
It doesn't help that he has to contend with this mystery and the mystery as to why Sakura has BB's phone in the first place. Though there's.. really only one solution to the latter, right.. ]
I-- Please forgive me if this is terribly rude, but I think you might be BB. [ How else could she have that device? This is the only thing that makes sense, even if it still feels wild in its own way entirely. ] Perhaps this place has changed you in some way..
What's.. that? The idea that the other doesn't even know what a hero is seems kind of baffling to Inigo. That place the other was stuck in really must be that strict then. After all, even Inigo knows what a hero is, and it's not exactly like he had the most pleasant childhood either. ]
Well.. They are people who help out people who need it. [ That's the most simple way he can explain it to the kid - and it's the way he wants it to come across right now, anyway. Like something reassuring. ] So if you have a hero on your side, you never have to feel lonely! Because that hero will be there for you and protect you whenever you need it!
[ Sweet Naga, he feels a little ridiculous. Kind of like he's Owain, or something.
I-It's for a good cause though, Inigo tells himself!! It's for the kid's sake! ]
How old was Gus the previous time they spoke? Inigo realizes he actually has no clue - but surely he would have been older than eight, right? What sort of eight year old child would write that?
Inigo contemplates all this for a moment, and then contemplates how to put what he wants to say for another moment more. He's still talking to a kid, after all, so he doesn't want to startle poor Gus too much. ]
The place we're in right now is.. strange. [ To put it mildly. But any more elaborate explanation might only scare Gus.. ] It can sometimes change people. I think it has changed something about you, and that's why you don't remember having been here. You know, like when people have amnesia?
[ It's something he instinctively does most of the time anyway. Even if she hadn't asked for it so explicitly, he may have offered her that hand by default once he got high up enough.
Right now there's no time to waste though, so he quickly climbs further up until he's at the very top. It's then that he turns around, leaning over and bending down to hold out an outstretched hand in her direction. ]
[ Oof. He can properly breathe again. Inigo isn't fully standing up just yet, but even when he's sitting up, it's like he's having that much of a height difference with Webby over here.. ]
No, I didn't.
[ Inigo still sounds a little dazed, and it's not still from the tackle hug - it's just that all of this is a lot to process at once. ]
I don't know all that much about what things were like for him when he was younger. Though it does sound like he always had his temper..
You truly have a way with words. A way with words that is, judging by Inigo's facial expression, really confusing the boy in this moment. He blinks rapidly, like he's trying to process that statement yet failing to grasp even a little bit of it at the same time. ]
Compliments. And so many at once. To some other people they may not seem that big, but Inigo is deadly allergic to them. He has to duck his head in order to try and his the way his cheeks are starting to grow a faint shade of red upon hearing all of this.
"Well, I wouldn't go as far as to say superb.." He has to try and deflect at least once, okay! Or he won't survive!! "Besides, the problem is this place! If it would stop constantly throwing dangerous things at us, then perhaps we would be able to enjoy ourselves for once without having to deal with this!"
Though Inigo is apparently obedient enough to Fang Duobing's words today to follow him over towards the table rather than attempting to find out the truth behind those other words himself, he still looks a little bit puzzled as he takes a seat the table.
"Is--" He starts, before leaning across the table towards the other, lowering his voice into a whisper like he's somewhat afraid of being overheard by said ankle-biter. Who knows what happens when you provoke a being like that.. "Is the biting part literal?"
Fang Duobing, what have you been enduring here by yourself!!
There's an affirmative hum, and Inigo nods and smiles at her to confirm her answer is the right one. He holds his hands very still, like he's allowing her to take her sweet time with feeling the outside of the shell, completely unaware of anything she might be thinking about right now.
"But it's a shell with a special little secret." He winks after he says it. "You see.. It looks sort of plain on the outside, doesn't it? If you would not know better, you might even mistake it for a rock, rather than a shell. But on the inside.."
